Chilasa clytia butterfly

Chilasa clytia, a common tropical butterfly found in Borneo. If not for the gloomy weather, the photo shoot would be perfect. The Chilasa clytia was just perching still on a flower and the air was still. A steady shot but lighting was a let down.


About a foot away in normal macro mode (not zero macro).


I think the photo above is about 5x lens zoom.

Tropical cream butterfly - Series #8

Photos of tropical butterfly from either the Pieridae or Riodinidae family. Exact genus is unknown. The butterfly species is cream in colour with occasional orange patches and a few pansy eyes.

The striking element of this butterfly is it's thorax and abdomen which has black horizontal stripes.

Tropical butterfly - Ptychandra Lorquini

Look like genus Ptychandra Lorquini with "eyes" on its hind wings.

Tropical Butterfly - Orange butterfly

Below are cropped photos of orange tropical butterfly. Species is unidentified but look similar Subfamily Satyrinae (such as Cercyonis or Coenonympha or Cyllopsis or Pearly-Eyes or Erebia). The Satyrinae subfamily have one thing in common, that is the "eye" or "eyes" on their wing.

Junonia Orithya Madagascariensis is from a butterfly family called Nymphalidae. Nymphalidae are brush-footed butterflies include groups such as the browns, milkweeds, snouts, and aristocrats, all of which have previously been classified as separate families. Junonia Orithya Madagascariensis can be found in three regions namely: African region, Oriental (Asia) region and Australian region.

Moths and Butterflies, Series #1

Butterflies are extremely difficult to shoot. They fly away at a slight breeze. Moths on the other hand, sit still but you can't have macro shot if you approached it too near.

For this post, I present 4 types of subject (3 moths and a butterfly).


Yellow moth perched on padi leaves. This is a cropped photo.

Another yellow moth resting under shade of the padi leaves.


Grey moth perched on some leaves.



Black and gray butterfly looking for nectar among at the Ixora flowers. The butterfly species is Papilio Polymnestor (Blue Mormon) and is commonly found in deep forests.
